We’ve got team spirit! How about you?
As much as I love summer, and I do love it, there’s something to be said for those first tell-tale signs of fall: crisp morning air, leaves changing from green to fiery red to yellow, and Starbucks bringing back their pumpkin spice latte. But what my friends and I get most excited about is the start of football season. There’s a special kind of bond that forms when thousands of strangers cheer together as one over the same great play, or jeer in unison over the same questionable call that goes the other team’s way. When that happens, it’s time to pull out the plush referee turkey hat and high-five everyone in the stands around you.
While it can be exciting to attend a game for our city’s professional team, it can also be quite pricey. So we usually find ourselves at our college alma mater’s stadium where we enjoy some pregame tailgating before heading to our more affordable seats. It’s always a good time. I mean, where else can you join in the revelry with thousands of kindred spirits who just happen to be dressed in pretty much the same color and style of outfit as you?
And if you’re looking to make some new friends, you’ll be pleasantly surprised by the number of people who stop by to chat when they see your 6-foot-tall inflatable goal post cooler (fully stocked, of course) signaling like a beverage beacon from 100 yards away.
Since we’re still in the preseason, now is the perfect time to stock up on college football and NFL team goods so you’re all set when the regular season rolls around and those wins and losses begin to count. While you could certainly eat burgers, brauts and chips off generic paper plates and sip drinks out of plain-looking cups, where’s the fun in that? It’s much more enjoyable to share a meal served with items emblazoned with your school or city’s name, mascot and coordinating colors. GO TEAM!
