Party & Decoration Ideas for Thanksgiving Birthdays

Thanksgiving birthdays are an extra special reason to feel truly blessed on this traditional turkey day! Your little one will certainly be looking forward to parades, playtime and mounding plates full of food, but there are a few fun touches you can add to make them really feel like the center of attention on their big day.

Whether you go with Turkeys, Pumpkins or traditional autumnal themes, there is a wide variety of party supplies and decorations available for your childs birthday. There are also some great DIY ideas you can work on with your little turkey!

Pumpkins – Using orange card stock and a template, cut out a pumpkin. Use googly eyes, stickers, or other small craft materials to make a face on one side of your pumpkin. On the flip side, use a paint pen or glitter pen to write out the details of your party.

Turkeys – Using a turkey shaped cookie cutter as a guide, cut out a turkey from brown card stock. One one side of the turkey, glue on googly eyes and craft pens to make a face and glue on red, orange and yellow tail feathers cut from card stock. On the flip side, use a gel pen to write out the details of your party.

Fall leaves – Use construction paper and cut out various shapes and colors of leaves. Layer three or four leaves on top of one another to create a leaf ‘cluster’. On one side, call out something fun like ‘Let’s talk Turkey – it’s my Birthday!’. On the flip side, use a craft pen to write out your party details.

You’ll probably want to stick to traditional Thanksgiving colors for your party supplies. Orange, brown, yellow, red and rust are great compliments to most fall or Thanksgiving themes. For extra color in your decor, stack solid color items with your themed items. Solid color tablecovers can be layered with a themed tablecover, and solid colors can be stacked every other with themed plates, napkins and cups.

Use a varitety of balloon colors with themed balloons to create balloon bouquets to place throughout your party room. Smaller balloon bouquets also make excellent place holders. Tie a small balloon bouquet to the back of a chair with the guests name written on one of the balloons, and you have a fun seat holder that they can also take home as a party favor. Crepe streamers,  window clings, garland, lanterns and hanging cut-outs are also great additions to set your scene.

For a quick and easy favor for your tables, place a few candy corns, candy pumpkins and carmels into themed cello favor bags. Close off with a twist tie or curled ribbon and place around your table settings. For each guest, you can also fill favor boxes with a mix of stickers, tattoos, bracelets, balls, slinkies, marbles, or any other fun small toys and leave at their place setting.

Games & Activities:

There are quite a few ‘traditional’ game ideas that are fun and appropriate for guests of all ages. Games like Pin the Feather on the Turkey, Pumpkin Bowling, and Leaf Treasure Hunt are sure to keep them moving and having a great time. For more Thanksgiving Birthday game ideas, check out

If you’re really feeling crafty, and have the time, you could also have supplies set up for each child to create a Mini Scarecrow. Using doll clothes rather than full sized clothing, guests can stuff with straw, use mini pumpkins or gourds for heads, and decorate a scarecrow all their own!

It’s likely that your meal will still be focused around the Thanksgiving holiday, but with a few easy additions, you can make your birthday baby’s dinner even more special. Cake pans, cupcake wrappers, and cake toppers are a simple yet fun way to spruce up your birthday desert. There are also Fall Decorating Kits you can let your guests use to decorate their own Turkey Cupcake or Pumpkin Cookie for some good & yummy fun!

Don’t forget the costumes! Whether you’re little one is a pure pilgrim or a total turkey, there are some fun accessories to add to their wardrobe for birthday fun! Items like top hats, head boppers, wigs, t-shirts and even shoe buckles can put them into character from head to toe. Pilgrim and pumpkin costumes are also a great idea!

It might take a little extra planning to fit Birthday fun into your already busy day, but adding even a few of these fairly simple steps to your routine, is sure to truly make your child feel thankful for their birthday blessings this Thanksgiving!
